CHUKS OKOH

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is to position it’s Mobile tower within the next 4 days, barely three weeks after the fire outbreak at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Lagos.

The management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) says the agency the location for the siting of the mobile tower must be good enough for optimal coverage of the runway

Investigation revealed that following the recent fire outbreak at Murlala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, it became necessary to provide a mobile tower as a stopgap for the provision of Air navigation services at the Aerodrome unit.

Critics have argued that that NAMA has failed to provide the mobile tower but an anonymous source in the agency revealed while efforts are on to make the Mobile tower available, it is important to ensure that it is done with utmost accuracy, with associated facilities involved in the inerest of safety.

It added that the location sited for the Mobile tower must be good enough to allow optimal visual coverage of the runway, taxiway and other relevant parts of the airfield by the Controller.

According to the source, the location that was adjudged as best requires excavation and casting, to ensure that the tower is well rooted and firm on the ground which has already been achieved.

Besides, the source said, the casting requires minimum of 21 days to allow it to dry before the Mobile tower can be positioned on it adding that it has two days more to complete 21 days to be dry enough to avoid cracks and other dangers associated with such installations.
