Nigerian politics is brutal. Contestants and their supporters often treat it as a gladiatorial contest, and they bring the most sinister, murderous and debilitating weapons in their arsenal to the contest, ready to flay, decapitate, dismember and impale anyone who stands in their way, and to stand over their victims with their foot on the head and hand in the air. But this is not true leadership.
In politics, true leadership is often revealed not in moments of triumph, but in moments of tension, competing interests, and difficult decisions. It is in such moments that the leadership of Monday Okpebholo has continued to distinguish itself in Edo State.

The governor’s handling of the party’s internal processes, particularly the peaceful conduct of primary elections across the senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly contests, stands as a remarkable example of democratic leadership guided by fairness and foresight.
