In a historic breakthrough for Nigeria’s aviation industry, the Federal Government and Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited have officially resolved their long-standing legal battle over the concession of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2) after more than 18 years of contentious disputes and litigation.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, disclosed the landmark agreement, describing it as a reciprocal settlement designed to clear decades of operational friction, restore investor confidence in public-private partnerships, and establish a clear path forward for future industry obligations.

Under the terms of the settlement, both parties agreed to waive historical claims that had previously bogged down progress and legal proceedings.

A major highlight of the resolution marks a unprecedented financial milestone: for the first time in nearly two decades, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will begin receiving concession fees due under the original concession agreement.

Simultaneously, the core point of contention regarding the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) has been finalized, with the facility officially recognized as belonging to the Federal Government and operated under FAAN’s management.

The resolution opens new commercial opportunities for domestic infrastructure development. Bi-Courtney has been granted approval to expand its apron facilities and commence regional African flights directly from MM2 up to its full operational capacity. Aviation stakeholders expect this expansion to modernize terminal infrastructure, enhance passenger experiences, and generate high-quality jobs across the sector.
