The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that it is closely monitoring a confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease reported in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The aviation agency stated that it is actively collaborating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other key stakeholders to assist in containment operations across the country.
Health authorities highlighted that the prompt detection of the virus and the immediate rollout of contact tracing demonstrate the vital role of existing health protocols, surveillance systems, and inter-agency partnership during public health emergencies.
In response to the development, FAAN has stepped up vigilance across all airport operational points. The agency emphasized that it will remain closely aligned with public health directives and implement further measures as required to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff, and the general public.
Addressing air travelers and airport users, FAAN urged the public, airlines, and stakeholders to maintain calm, remain observant, and fully cooperate with health officials on duty. It also advised citizens to depend exclusively on verified information channels and refrain from circulating unconfirmed reports.
Reassuring the public, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, reiterated the Authority’s commitment to protecting public health while maintaining safe and seamless operations across Nigeria’s airports.
