The former managing director of Skyways Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) Dr Oluropo Owolabi, has raised alarm over the increasing distortion and defacing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport plans saying, it is fast becoming both security and safety of the airport community

Speaking in chat in Lagos, Dr Owolabi lamented that illegal activities have taken over the nacho end of the airport from the popular 7 and 8 area to the cargo gate with various businesses springing up in unauthorised areas.

According to Dr owolabi, the development if not checked by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), will be various dangerous, saying it was already a security threat to the airport.

According to the former Sahco boss, the cargo section of the airport has turned to market describing it as ‘Jankara’

According to Dr Owolabi, commercial vehicle operators have taken over NAHCO environs

He noted that legal issues sorrounding Nigeria airports has made it difficult to invest in the system by foreigners accusing the former aviation minister, Hadi Sirika for selling almost everything at the airport.

According to the former Sahco boss, anybody appointed to preside over aviation ministry and agencies in the industry especially, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria out to go for at least six months course for good management

Dr Owolabi condemned the indescriminate construction of tank farms by aviation fuel dealers around the airport saying it was a time bomb and called on the security arms of Aviation agencies to wake up their responsibility.

He also took a swipe on the construction of Aircraft hangars on every available space adding that in the next 10 years, the MMIA will be defaced.

On the attack on former Airport military commandant Retired, Group Capt John Ojikutu, Owaolabi, described it as baseless and uncalled for adding that the retired military commandant was an expert in security.
