ANAP CONDEMNS BRUTALIZATION OF AIRPORT STAFF BY NAF PERSONEL

CHUKS OKOH

The Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) says it is worried over the brutalisation of airport workers at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa by men of the Nigerian Airforce (NAF)

In a media release signed by Comrade Ocheme Abah, Deputy General Secretary ANAP decried what the union the maltreatment of airport staff

ANAP explained, “The latest in this putrid series took place on the 11th of May, 2026 at the Portharcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

On that date, no less a person than the Head of Operations Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) of the airport, Mr. Ekene Enechukwu (a Deputy General Manager) was responding to an emergency call based on a fire incidence at that airport when, due to the misreading of his state of hurriedness, an Airforce personnel physically assaulted and bloodied him at the military check point by the toll gate to the airport”.

ANAP noted that the unprovoked brutality was one too many by NAF and other arms bearing personnel in various airports in the country.

The union said they have had cause in past, time without number, to call attention to this kind of terrifying uncivil behaviour in a completely civic environment, but it seemed their efforts at doing so have clearly fallen on deaf ears.

“It has become necessary, therefore, to commence further steps that will ensure that such does not occur again. And in the coming days, the agenda for such next steps will be unfolded after due and wide consultations”.

The union said they demand an unreserved apology from the NAF to Mr. Enechukwu and FAAN,and severe sanctions against the particular Airforce personnel who carried out the infraction.
