By Tony Erha

In Abuja, the federal capital and presidential seat of power, the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), is holding a two day workshop journalists and media practitioners, drawn from media houses and ministries, from the Federal Capital Territory, and Kaduna State.

The workshop, which started yesterday, August 6, 2026, and winds-up today, is funded by the European Union (EU), and backed the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), is aimed to deepen media strategy to reporting Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBVM), with the introduction of a Media Corps, dedicated to its reportage, and strengthening efforts at creating the awareness.

Mr. Vincent Adekoye, NAPTIP’s Head of Press and Public Relations, who coordinated its day-one proceedings.

Adekoye, on behalf of Binta Adamu Bello, its Director General, informed participants that the Media Corps was established, to arrest the new challenges it faces in its relentless fight against the scourge.

He also stated that the success recorded by the agency, which has been recognised across the globe, had prompted the funding from the EU, and support of the International IDEA.

The programme aims to support Nigeria’s efforts to reduce SGBV at federal, state and local levels.

The first day of the event opened up with sessions manned by Wynyfred Achu-Egbuson, Civil Society and Community Mobilization Specialist ESGBV, from International IDEA leading, alongside Toyin Adewale-Gabriel, Dr. Tim Aniebonam, Amsfree Ajanaku and Vincent Adekoye.
