CHUKS OKOH,
Nigeria’s protocol officers and travel facilitators have thrown their weight behind the ongoing campaign to eliminate disruptive and violent passenger behavior at airports and on board commercial flights across the country.
The collaborative push comes amid escalating industry concerns over the rising frequency of unruly passenger incidents. Cabin crew members face the brunt of these disruptions, often forced to manage volatile and occasionally violent individuals within the high-risk, confined environment of an aircraft in flight.
While statutory bodies such as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria continue to step up monitoring and enforcement at check-in counters and onboard, the Nigeria King and Queen of the Air organization is adopting creative public communication strategies to educate the flying public and stem the tide of disruptive conduct.
At the International Protocol Officer Conference 2026, current King of the Air, Adeyemi James Abebote of Arik Air, alongside Queen of the Air, Blossom Dallenes Ubani of Ibom Air, officially launched the “Not On My Flight” advocacy initiative. The duo is leveraging branded apparel, public outreach, and targeted social media messaging to amplify the unified stance of Nigerian cabin crew against abusive behavior in the skies.
The high-profile gathering drew over 200 delegates representing various sectors and state governments to deliberate on national protocol standards, passenger facilitation, and civil aviation decorum.
Speaking at the event, Conference Convener and Chairman of the NIGAV Centre, Mr. Fortune Idu, emphasized that the annual summit serves as a critical platform for peer review and professional alignment.
He noted that engaging protocol officers, who directly manage high-volume passenger movements is essential to embedding order and good practices across the travel sector, particularly ahead of the busy end-of-year festive rush when passenger friction historically peaks.
