MMA2 Prepares for Regional Flights as Dr. Babalakin Conducts High-Level Inspection
CHUKS OKOH
The Chairman of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), Dr. Wale Babalakin, SAN, has undertaken an extensive inspection tour of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) as part of intensified preparations for the commencement of regional flight operations.
The high-level facility assessment follows the recent signing of a landmark settlement agreement resolving the long-standing MMA2 concession dispute. This key legal breakthrough has cleared the path for the private terminal operator to fast-track infrastructural upgrades and operational readiness required to handle international passenger traffic within the West African region.
Guided by the Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Mr. Remi Jibodu, Dr. Babalakin inspected critical project sites, including the designated regional arrivals hall, the expanded aircraft apron, and the upgraded access gates for staff and concessionaires.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace of execution, the BASL Chairman commended the project team for their dedication and urged them to maintain momentum to ensure strict adherence to project deadlines.
During the tour, Dr. Babalakin underscored the necessity of seamless collaboration with key regulatory bodies, particularly the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
He instructed management to ensure that all safety, security, and operational standards strictly conform with regulatory guidelines, stressing that every necessary inspection and clearance must be secured well ahead of the official launch date.
Addressing the dual operational demands facing the terminal, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of BASL, Mrs. Idunnu Oyebolu, noted that while team efforts are heavily directed toward launching regional flights, equal priority is being given to managing the heavy passenger surge expected during the upcoming end-of-year travel season.
She affirmed that the management is committed to delivering a seamless, safe, and efficient passenger experience while scaling up infrastructure.
Reiterating management’s readiness, Mr. Jibodu pledged that all remaining construction works and operational fine-tuning would be executed strictly on schedule.
He emphasized that the company will intensify inter-agency collaboration with border control and aviation safety officials to guarantee that MMA2’s new regional wing operates smoothly from day one.
The ongoing expansion marks a significant shift for MMA2, positioning the facility to expand its route network beyond domestic borders. By bridging regional connectivity and introducing higher service standards, BASL aims to solidify MMA2’s standing as a leading aviation hub in Nigeria and the broader West African sub-region.
