IKEJA ELECTRICITY POWER CUT : GOWON ESTATE RESIDENTS PROTEST

Residents of ‘E’ Close, 34 Road of Gowon Estate Egbeda in Alimosho area of Lagos State, have carried out a protest to the undertaking office of the Ikeja Electricity at Ponle.

The protesters mainly women, vowed not to leave the premises of Ikeja Electricity until they restore power to E close of 34 Road.

They accused the Business Manager of Akowonjo Business Unit, Ponle of Ikeja Electric (IE) Mr. Abayomi, the Commercial Manager and the Egbeda Undertaking Manager of deliberately thrown the Gowon Estate Community of ‘E’ Close 34 Road into darkness

According to them the PHCN officials are trying to connect the Duplex Community and Church Village within the environ with three heavy equipment manufacturing companies without prepaid meters

They said it is the cash cow of the Business Manager and cohorts because of the estimated billings they derived from them with their transformer being maintained by the Community funds whenever there is fault

“The Duplex transformer is faulty and Ikeja Electric don’t want to fix it rather the Duplex community in connivance with aforementioned persons after money have exchanged hands threaten that nobody can prevent them from carrying out their plan and as a result of the resistance, they have now cut off the community from light”.

It will be recalled that sometime ago similar situation of transformer failure occurred at same E close 34 Road Community and Duplex community was approached for temporary connection to their transformer

They claimed it had become the habit of the Business Manager to abandon where there is a fault with the transformer for the community to contribute resources for the repairs.

“We are calling on the Minister of power and other relevant agencies to as a matter of urgency call the Business Manager and Ikeja Electric to order and restore our light which he deliberately disconnected on the 6th day of February, 2026 being Friday evening and knowing fully well that it will run into weekend”

“We don’t want to take the laws into our hand but the Business Manager and his cohorts are pushing us to our limit and should be aware that this is conduct likely to cause breach of peace and threatening violence to the community”
