EDO ASSEMBLY: 2026 SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION BILL SCALE SECOND READING

AS ANOTHER SPECIAL ADVISER APPROVED

The 2026 Supplementary Appropriation Bill has scaled second reading in the Edo State House of Assembly, while also approving the appointment of additional special advisers for the state governor and the 18 local government areas.

The supplementary bill was considered during plenary, where lawmakers unanimously supported its passage to the next stage, with no dissenting voice recorded.

Leading the debate, the Majority Leader, Hon. Sunny Ojiezele, highlighted the importance of the supplementary budget, noting that it would accelerate infrastructure development and stimulate economic growth across the state.

He urged his colleagues to support the bill, stressing the need for sustained investment in projects that would improve the lives of residents.

Other lawmakers who contributed to the debate also expressed support for the proposed appropriation, particularly its potential to facilitate the reconstruction of failed roads across the state during the dry season.

Following deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Yekini Idaiye, referred the bill to the House Committee on Appropriation and Budget Monitoring for further scrutiny and fine-tuning.

In a separate deliberation, the Assembly approved the appointment of an additional 30 special advisers for the governor, alongside five additional special advisers for each local government area in the state.

The request was conveyed to the lawmakers in a letter from the governor, which was read during plenary.

Lawmakers who supported the approval argued that the additional appointments would strengthen the governor’s capacity to coordinate governance and facilitate the spread of development across the state.

At the conclusion of proceedings, Speaker Idaiye directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Yahaya Omogbai, to forward clean copies of the resolution to the governor for the necessary action.

The plenary session was thereafter adjourned until Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
